Appel à projets Montage de Réseaux Scientifiques Européens ou Internationaux (MRSEI) – 17/9/2019

Dans le cadre de la composante « Construction de l’espace européen de la Recherche et attractivité internationale » du Plan d’action 2019, l’instrument MRSEI est reconduit avec un format de soumission en continu impliquant deux sessions d’évaluation et de sélection en 2019.

Cet appel à projets a pour but d’améliorer le taux de réussite de la France aux appels H2020 et à renforcer son positionnement scientifique par la coordination de projets européens (Horizon 2020 principalement) et/ou internationaux.

Sont attendues dans le cadre de cet appel, des propositions ayant pour objet de constituer un réseau scientifique, couvrant des sujets de toutes les disciplines. Ces demandes doivent répondre à des programmes européens ou internationaux de grande ampleur, ayant un impact majeur au niveau scientifique, technologique et/ou sociétal.

Les projets sélectionnés recevront une aide maximale de 30 k€ pour une durée maximale de 24 mois (sans prolongation possible). L’aide reçue financera exclusivement les actions permettant de définir des intérêts scientifiques et économiques pour le montage d’un projet européen ou international.

L’ANR a pris des dispositions permettant une grande rapidité dans la prise de décision et la mise en place des financements :

un dossier de soumission simplifié ;
un bénéficiaire unique de l’aide pour le compte du consortium complet : l’organisme de recherche français ;
une sélection par les pairs réalisée par un seul comité d’évaluation scientifique.

Axes et thèmes de recherche : tous domaines scientifiques, tous thèmes mono- ou pluridisciplinaires.

Microwork platforms Conference – 13-14/06/2019

Microwork platforms: a challenge for artificial intelligence, a challenge for employment?

In the wake of digitalization and artificial intelligence, what role do microtasking platforms play in the transformation of work?

France Stratégie, MSH-Paris Saclay, and INDL (International Network on Digital Labor), convene a two-day international conference in Paris on June 13-14, 2019. The event will include a « meet the microworkers » panel on June 13, where workers, platform owners and client companies will take the stage, as well as the first INDL PhD workshop on June 14. There will also be presentations of the results of national and international surveys on these emerging forms of work, and discussions with French and international academic and institutional experts, as well as worker representatives.

After Uber, Deliveroo and other on-demand services, microwork is a new form of labor mediated by digital platforms. Internet and mobile services recruit crowds to perform small, standardized and repetitive tasks on behalf of corporate clients, in return for fees ranging from few cents to few euros. These tasks generally require low skills: taking a picture in a store, recognizing and classifying images, transcribing bits of text, formatting an electronic file… Despite their apparent simplicity, these micro-tasks performed by millions of people around the world, are crucial to create the databases needed to calibrate and « train » artificial intelligence algorithms.

Internationally, Amazon Mechanical Turk is the most widely known micro-work platform. In France and in French-speaking Africa, other platforms are attracting a growing number of workers to supplement or even substitute for their primary income. How widespread is the phenomenon? How to recognize, organize and regulate this new form of work? How, finally, does it relate to traditional forms of employment?

Presentations and discussions will be held in French and English, with simultaneous translation.

27th International Colloquium of Gerpisa

Paradigm shift? The Automotive Industry in Transition

During the last three years we have been exploring how the new frontiers of the automotive industry are transforming the way cars are conceived, produced, used and regulated. We have been debating the nature, the pace and the long-term consequences of these transformations; whether they are disruptive or evolutionary; whether they are driven by new or traditional actors. We have highlighted the theoretical and methodological challenges raised by the following kind of phenomena: much of the debated changes within the auto industry currently represent only small and marginal change, yet any of the forces could well grow and change the industry profoundly; the assumption that the knowledge accumulated on the past trajectory of industries and firms may not be pertinent going forward in order to understand what is happening as changes are brought by technologies and firms from outside the automotive industry, notably by digital companies; and the difficulty of working on forecasts and expectations, whose predictability and performativity are by definition debatable and uncertain.

For the 27^thinternational colloquium of Gerpisa we propose to address these issues and questions from the perspective of a common empirical and theoretical question: is the automotive industry going through a paradigm shift?

The notion of a paradigm has been used by evolutionary economics to characterise technological change as a localised and collective social process, based on shared cognitive frames, developing along technological trajectories associated with the progressive realization of the innovative opportunities underlying each paradigm. But paradigms have also been associated with shifts in cultural beliefs, as they change expectations, choices, regulations and behaviour.

Algorithmes & Discrimination – Chronique dans Le Monde – mai 2019

Labellisé en 2017 dans le cadre de l’appel à projets Maturation MSH Paris-Saclay, le projet mené par Grazia Cecere (Institut Mines-Telecom Business School), avec Clara Jean (Epitech), Fabrice Le Guel et Matthieu Manant (RITM – université Paris-Sud ), vise à mettre en place des expérimentations de terrain pour tester la discrimination des algorithmes en situations réelles dans le cadre de campagnes publicitaires et sur différentes plateformes internet, et ainsi contribuer à comprendre plus globalement les biais des algorithmes sur ces plateformes.

Les premiers résultats du projet sont évoqués dans Le Monde dans une chronique d’Annie Khan : « La publicité des écoles d’ingénieurs ne s’intéresse pas aux filles ».
